About Ted Ellis
Fueled by his passion for his family and his heritage; enabled by his artistic skill and commitment to excellence, Ted Ellis paints “subjects that are representative of the many facets of American life, particularly, African-American culture and history” as he knows it. “I like to think of myself as a creative historian. I was put here to record history…all aspects of American culture and heritage. My sole purpose has always been to educate through my art.”
Growing up in New Orleans, a city known for its rich African American history, Ted was exposed to artistic exuberance on a daily basis. This backdrop inspired Ellis to capture the essence of the subjects of his childhood in their glorious, rich cultural heritage. Dedicated to his craft, the artist exploits a stylistic synergy, born in his childhood from impressions of his beloved Crescent City. A self-taught artist who boldly blends realism and impressionism in his work, Ellis’ masterpieces evokes nostalgia and inspiration.
Currently residing right outside of Houston in Friendswood, Texas, Ellis is an award-winning and revered artist who has been commissioned by well-known brands such as Walt Disney Studios, The Minute Maid Company, Coca-Cola, Phillip Morris, and Avon, Incorporated.
